English IV Final Exam Questions

Choose ONE of the following essay questions and prepare it for your exam.  You may bring in 2 3/5 note cards with your thesis statement, your topic sentences for each paragraph and any evidence from the text that you wish to use to support your assertions.

You may also bring the exam questions.  I will not have copies at exam time.

1) Consider the issue of Race. Looking at Crash, Master Harlod and the Boys, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and The Kiter Runner. Focusing on the dance metaphor from MHB, discuss how racial assumption develop, where they develop from and how those racial attitudes prevent growth. Finally how do we learn to dance?

2) How are race and power related in all of the texts mentioned above? How do those in power rely on or manipulate racial tension to their advantage.

3) Compare the symbol of the kite from MHB and TKR. Are their any similarities in terms of meaning and purpose in the stories? Find another symbol from OFOTCN and/or SD that functions in a similar manner.

4) Explore the theme insanity in OFOTCN, and SD. What is insanity? Who defines it? Name a character from TKR who might also be labeled insane. Based on what definition?
